Are you a foodie? Do you feel bloated after meals at times? If yes, then read on to know about some food combinations that you should avoid for better health and digestion.
1. Banana and Milk
Most of us love banana and like experimenting with it to make new dishes and drinks. It is popularly combined with milk to make desserts, beverages etc. and we just love it, don’t we? But should we really consume them together? Well, the answer is no. This food combination disturbs digestion process, sleep pattern and is not recommended for people with breathing issues.
The best way to consume a fruit (not just banana) is to have it alone. If you wish to eat banana with milk, then have it after 20 minutes of drinking milk. And if you cannot avoid banana milkshake, then add nutmeg or cinnamon to stimulate digestion.
TIP: Avoid having fruit with or after a meal. Food stays in stomach for a longer period of time as they require more digestion. So, if we have fruit after meal (which consumed otherwise require no digestion) stays in stomach for a longer period of time and may ferment.
2. Pineapple and Dairy
Another food combination that one should avoid is consuming dairy products with pineapple. Pineapple is acidic/sour fruit which can cause indigestion and intoxication when mixed with dairy products specially milk.
The best way is to try and consume pineapple and dairy/milk separately to get best nutrients out of them.
3. Meat and Potato
If you love having steak with French fries or potato chips, then stop right away! Animal protein with high starch carbohydrates food combination may taste great but having it in one meal is hard to digest. Eventually, you may feel bloated, suffer heartburn or have gas troubles etc.
You may consume potatoes or meat with vegetables. If you have to combine meat and potato, then add green leafy vegetables for better effect.
4. Tomato and Cucumber
Many of us love eating salads and try making them with different ingredients. Have you ever tried combining tomatoes and cucumber in one meal? If yes, then stop immediately. Both these items require different digestive environment and hence should not be eaten together.
The best way to consume them is eating them separately in different dishes and salads.
5. Pasta and Minced Meat
As already mentioned in this article, proteins with carbs together in a meal should be avoided to keep digestion issues at bay. Pasta and minced meat food combination should not be taken.

6. Nuts and Alcohol
Salty nuts with alcohol are considered to be very popular food combination. But should you really have it together? The answer is big no. Eating salty nuts with beer/alcohol may increase chances of dehydration and you may end up having more alcohol. Moreover, nuts are an unhealthy snack that may lead to high cholesterol so it should be avoided at all times.
7. Sandwiches and Coffee
One of the quickest, easiest and yummiest breakfast options is cheese sandwich and one cup of coffee. But is it healthy and nutritional? NO. Carbs in bread doesn’t let calcium from cheese digest properly and instant coffee doesn’t do any good to your health.
It is better to have green tea instead of coffee if you love cheese sandwich.
8. Cereal with Milk and Orange Juice
Cereal with milk and orange juice is a very common breakfast around the world. But to keep your breakfast healthy, please avoid this food combination. Juice being acidic may curdle the milk and may hinder the digestion of cereals.
So, it is better to have juice 30 minutes or 1 hour before or after the cereal.
TIP: Avoid having juice/water with food as it may destroy effectiveness of breaking down of nutrients. If consumed 10-15 minutes before the meal, it will keep you from overeating and keep digestion system alright.
9. Bacon and Eggs
Any two high protein (concentrated) items such as bacon and eggs should not be consumed together as it is difficult to digest.
It is best to have the meat in the last course of your meal. Keep the first course light (vegetable or protein) and then within 10 minutes of your first course, have your last course of the meal. If you still wish to have concentrated protein together, add high water content veggies.
